S-Etukortti (S-Group bonus card): how it works and how to join

The loyalty card of S-Group, Finland's largest retail cooperative. Members get up to 5% of their purchases back as bonus every month.
What it means
S-Etukortti is the loyalty card issued by S-Group (S-ryhmä), Finland's largest cooperative retail group. S-Group operates S-Market and Prisma (grocery), Sale and Alepa (convenience), ABC (fuel stations), Sokos (department stores), Rosso and other restaurants, and Sokos Hotels. You get the card by becoming a co-op member (asiakasomistaja), and you then earn bonus on purchases at over 2,000 S-Group locations in Finland.
The card itself costs nothing. What you pay is a one-time membership fee (osuusmaksu) of 100 €, and you get it back if you ever leave the cooperative.
How to join
- Go to s-etukortti.fi/en and choose Join now. Joining online takes a few minutes.
- Pay the 100 € membership fee in one go, or in instalments of at least 20 €. You can also pay it off with bonus you earn.
- Download the S-mobiili app to get a digital card straight away, follow your bonus and see receipts.
Only one person per household needs to pay the fee. Other household members can join your household for free and get their own parallel card (rinnakkaiskortti), and everyone's purchases count towards the same bonus level.
Bonus table
Bonus is money back, paid every month. The percentage depends on your household's total purchases at S-Group that month:

This is the standard table used by most regional cooperatives. Osuuskauppa KPO and Koillismaan Osuuskauppa have a slightly different lowest tier. Fuel bonus is calculated separately. Check the current table on S-Group's bonus page.
Why it matters for internationals
S-Group stores are hard to avoid in Finland, so a household that does most of its grocery shopping there quickly reaches the higher bonus levels. Because the 100 € fee is refundable, it works more like a deposit than a cost. Pooling purchases with the people you live with is the easiest way to move up the table.
