Frequently Asked Questions
Can I work with a family permit?
Yes! Family-based residence permits include the right to work. You can work for any employer in any field, same as if you had a work permit.
What if my relationship ends?
There is no fixed waiting period. Notify Migri of the change, then apply to extend your permit on another ground (work, studies) or on the basis of strong ties to Finland. Permanent residence generally needs 4-6 years of continuous residence.
Are integration courses mandatory?
Not mandatory, but highly recommended. They're free, help you learn Finnish, understand the job market, and get career counseling. Municipal employment services provide an individual integration plan.
